Linen is extensively grown in the area of the Brotonne regional natural park in the Eure and Seine Maritime departments. The plant requires very fertile land, and must not be grown more than once every seven years on the same plot. It is ideally suited to the humid climate of the Haute Normandie region, and as a result the region produces more than half of the entire European linen crop.

During July and August, one can often see fields covered with linen plants laid down in the sun to dry.
