Stone Age Anglers

Along the sands to the south of Granville in the department of the Manche, archaeologists have found the remains of fish-traps from the Neolithic period. A v-shaped line of stakes was embedded in the ground, and fish were driven into the point of the v, to be caught by the waiting netsmen. The method must have been very efficient, as traps of just the same design were in use until the 19th century in the same area.
